Surfing the Internet

Hi!
Today I am sharing with you some online resources that can be useful for learning and teaching English as a foreign language.
Blogs:

  1. This blog is called "Our English Class". It is written by Mayte Pelegrín who works as an English teacher in a school in Murcia. Her blog is very complete. It includes a big variety of activites which are very useful for learning English. They are dynamic and also connected with the student´s daily life and interests. This is very important to develop meaningful learning. There are tasks related to Halloween, Thanksgiving day and other celebrations, and these tasks are different form the ones that we are accustomed to. It includes a big variety of links that are useful for students and teachers, it also has a lot of podcasts, songs and games.
  2. This blog is written by Esperanza Moreno who is an English teacher. Like the previous one, it is very useful. It is attractive for students because it is very colourful and visual. It has tales, books and nursery rhymes which are helpful for learning a foreign language and it also includes some symbaloos which have links that are sorted out in different topics.
  3. This blog is written by an English teacher that works in a school of Valencia. It is called "Take a pen". It has a lot of resources and worksheets that can be downloaded. The blog also includes some interesting tasks and projects that have been developed in her classroom. The acitivities are divided into six groups: grammar, speaking, vocabulary, listening, reading and writing.

Webs:

  1. This web page has been created by BBC. It is very engaging for children. There are invented characters with their adventures. A lot of interactive resources are used such as videos, games, stories, etc.
  2. In this page we can find a lot of video clips of songs that are very famous. While you are listening to the song, you have to fill in the gaps with the words that are missing. This is a great resource to learn vocabulary in the classroom and also to work with pronunciation and spelling. It is attractive for the students because these songs in English are present in our daily life.
  3. This site is very useful for teaching English in the classroom. We can create the type of activity that we want (crosswords, dialogues, tests, alphabet soups, etc.). After finishing the activity, the page assesses your activity. If it is good, you can publish and share it with other people.
Podcasts:
  1. As I have said before, this page includes a lot of podcasts that are very helpful for our students. They can listen to stories about the characters that they have previously known. In this case, while they are spending a good time listening to them, they are improving their English.
  2. In this site we can find a lot of podcasts that have been made to be listened to by little kids. Each podcast tells us a funny story. These stories can be invented, or can be retellings of the most famous fairy tales. This way of working with literature is very engaging for students.
  3. These podcasts are very entertaining for children. They are about Finn who is a boy that lives in a space station. He is in charge of exploring the space and solving mysteries with the help of his friends.
Videos:
  1. In this site we can find a lot of videos that are very useful to improve our English pronunciation. They can be very helpful in upper primary classes if we want to teach our students the correct pronunciation of vowels, consonants, diphthongs, etc.
  2. Here we have some videos in which there are no voices and they tell you a story. They can be very useful for teaching and learning a foreign language because they help you make different activities that imply the use of English (predicting what can happen in the video, creating dialogues, acting out a part of the video, etc.).
  3. This is the youtube channel of the British Council. It has a big variety of videos that are appropiate for students of English as a foreign language. They are simple and funny. It also has nursery rhymes and songs which are suitable for the learners because of their repetitive structures.
I hope you enjoy it!
